A NOTE FROM THE DESIGNERS
For the new Noise From Amerika identity, we wanted to capture NfA's spirit as a lively, piercing forum of intellectual dissent, debate, and dialog. We started by designing a simple, iconic mark that presents the letter "N" as a sharp jolt of energy disrupting the continuity of a straight line, like the sudden radical influence of an idea whose time has come. This motif of the disrupted line also carries into various aspects of the blog.
The logo glows fiery red – it evokes passion, vigor, and hints at Italy. Graphical elements are crisply-delineated and unambiguous, echoing NfA's high standard for hard facts and intellectual integrity. As a whole, this visual identity projects a clear, intense confidence.
Designing this blog was a rich challenge. Because NfA posts typically run thousands of words and nest hundreds of comments deep, we aimed to reduce reader fatigue and increase legibility while stimulating visual interest. Typography was carefully grafted onto an invisible harmonic grid to create a pleasantly-spaced rhythm for long passages of text.
Overall, this design positions NfA for future growth and greater influence. It embodies the NfA spirit in an identity that's boldly recognizable and timelessly appealing. We're grateful to NfA's founders for engaging us on such an interesting project. Readers and contributors: we hope the you enjoy the new look!
